Welcome!

Every year, we welcome more than 1,500 transfer students to UMass Amherst and MassTransfer students are about a third of our incoming class. MassTransfer students are a highly valued group of students in our community, with each student bringing various experiences and perspectives to campus.

The associate degrees listed below are approved for MassTransfer.

This associate degree is linked to the following program(s) at UMass Amherst:

Post-introductory biology courses do not apply to biology major requirements.

Since many STEM majors require Calculus or Pre-Calculus as part of the major requirements, completion of at least Pre-Calculus is recommended prior to transferring.

If you want to pursue a nutrition major, you are encouraged to have completed at least two semesters of general chemistry equivalent to Chem 111 and 112, and one semester of biology equivalent to Bio 151, and be prepared to take Organic Chemistry. While not required, the following courses are also helpful to have completed for the nutrition major: Organic Chemistry I and II, Anatomy & Physiology, a microbiology course with a lab, a business class, Introductory Psychology, and Statistics.

If you want to major in kinesiology, you should be prepared to start or finish Applied Calculus I and II before entering UMass. Completion of the following courses prior to transferring is recommended: Calculus I, General Chemistry for Science Majors, Introductory Physics, and two semesters of Anatomy and Physiology with labs.

Education majors complete two academic programs as part of their bachelor's degree — one in education and another in a different major. However, the education program is selective and requires an on-campus application. Therefore, incoming students are not admitted directly into the College of Education. If you are interested in pursuing education, apply to the major that you want to complete alongside your education major. After you transfer, you will be able to apply to the College of Education as an on-campus applicant. We encourage you to go to the College of Education's website for more information.

Some bachelor's degrees will require higher levels of math than included in this program. Visit the website of your intended major at UMass Amherst for information about math courses you may want to take at your community college prior to transferring.

Students interested in the hospitality and tourism management major are encouraged to complete Statistics (MAT 181), Macroeconomics (ECO 201), Microeconomics (202), and Financial Accounting (ACC 101 and ACC 102) prior to transferring. We also recommend choosing either HRT 112: Food and Beverage for Hospitality Professionals or HRT 131: Front Office Operations as your career elective option, because CUL 111: Food Service and Sanitation Skills may not be transferable.

Sport management is a selective major at UMass Amherst. Students interested in the program must complete additional pre-requisite courses in Microeconomics or Managerial Accounting and meet the program's minimum GPA requirements to be considered for admission. Through this program, students can complete the Visual Arts pathway. Graduates of this associate degree may also be considered for most majors in the College of Humanities & Fine Arts or the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences.
