Email Troubleshooting
To ensure that you can receive email messages from Undergraduate Admissions and other UMass departments and staff members, make sure that UMass has the email address you use most often on file. A few more recommendations:
- Do not use a school email address
We recommend not using a school email address, since some schools block outside emails, and you may not have access to that address after graduating. In order to change this yourself, please login to your status portal and select the "Change Email Address" link at the bottom of the page, or click here: Change Email (umass.edu). If you need help swapping your email address you can reach us at mail@admissions.umass.edu or 413-545-0222.
- Make @umass.edu a Safe Sender/Domain
We also recommend that you add the @umass.edu domain to your email safe senders, so that important admission messages don't get caught in your spam filter. Instructions for different email hosts are below.
Gmail
Please add our domain name (umass.edu) to your Safe Senders list. Here are instructions:
- Log in to your gmail account and click on the Gear Icon in the top right corner to access your Settings
- Click on the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" tab and at the bottom click on "Create a new filter"
- Under "From" type in @umass.edu and hit "Create filter"
- Check the "Never send it to Spam" box and save your filter
Missing an email? Check if our email is in the “Spam” or "Promotions" folder.
Yahoo!
Please add our domain name (umass.edu) to your Safe Senders list. Here are instructions:
- Open your mailbox and click on the Gear Icon in the top right corner to access your Settings
- Click "More Settings"
- Select "Filters"
- Click the "Add new filters" link on the filters page, and add a filter name
- Select "contains" in the dropdown list under the "From" Header
- In the "From" header field, write @umass.edu
- Click the Choose Folder pull-down menu and select Inbox. Pick the "Add Filter" button

Windows Live Hotmail
Please add our domain name (umass.edu) to your Safe Senders list. Here are instructions:
- Open your mailbox and click the Gear Icon in the top right corner to access your "Options", and hit "More Options"
- Select the "Junk Email" section
- Click the "Add" link under "Safe senders and domains"
- Type in umass.edu and hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard

Microsoft Outlook 2016
Please add our domain name (umass.edu) to your Safe Senders list. Here are instructions:
- Log in, and click the arrow next to the junk email icon (top-left, looks like a person with a "no" symbol on them) then select "Junk E-mail Options"
- On the “Safe Senders” tab, click “Add”.
- In the “Add Address” field, enter “umass.edu”.
- Click "Apply", then “OK”.

网易邮箱(163.com, 126.com, yeah.net, netease.com)
- 点击邮箱页面右上方的“设置”,选择”邮箱安全设置”
- 点击在左边的“反垃圾/黑白名单”
- 在“白名单”页面中,点击“+添加白名单”按钮
- 在添加白名单页面中输入umass.edu
- 最后点击“确定”按钮,便可设置成功
- 打开QQ邮箱,点击选择“设置”按钮。
- 然后在新的界面里点击选择“反垃圾”按钮。
- 之后在该页面中点击“设置域名白名单”选项。
- 然后在该页面中输入 “umass.edu”,并点击“添加到域名白名单” ,即可成功设置白名单了。
