The Right Program for You

With more than 100 majors, UMass Amherst offers the breadth of a large research university—and the flexibility to chart a path aligned with your goals. Learn from world-renowned faculty while exploring disciplines, combining fields, and preparing for what comes next.

If your academic interests don’t fit into a traditional major, UMass Amherst gives you a way to shape your own. Through University Without Walls, the Bachelor’s Degree with Individual Concentration (BDIC) allows you to design a course of study that combines disciplines and work closely with faculty to build something entirely your own. Or, choose Exploratory Pathways to help you take that tough first step: start with online courses and choose whether to finish your degree online or apply to study on campus.

Residential Academic Programs (RAPs) bring first-year and transfer students together in living-learning communities where you live in the same residence hall and take a small, discussion-based course with your peers. From day one, you’ll build real connections—with classmates and faculty—while exploring ideas beyond the classroom and settling into campus with a built-in community.
