A detailed transfer credit evaluation will be completed within the next few weeks and will be available to you in your SPIRE account. In the meantime please refer to the “UMass Amherst Transfer Credit & More!” email for information about your transfer credits.

Admission is contingent upon maintaining your current level of academic performance. It is your responsibility to notify the Admissions Office of any significant decline in academic performance or of any disciplinary/criminal history that occurs after your application. UMass Amherst reserves the right to rescind admission based on this information.

If you have already applied for financial aid at your prior institution, you will receive an email when your financial aid award is ready. Typically, students are notified within two weeks of their acceptance if they have added UMass Amherst to their FAFSA prior to receiving the admissions decision.

If you intend to apply for financial aid and have not already done so, file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form immediately. FAFSA is the only application needed to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional funds. The FAFSA is available online. UMass Amherst’s FAFSA school code is 002221. To avoid delays in award processing, please ensure that the name and Social Security number on your admission application and FAFSA form match the name and number on your Social Security card.

To be considered for financial aid, you must file the FAFSA, and add UMass Amherst to your application. Please monitor your “To Do List” in SPIRE self-service to determine whether there is additional information needed to establish your financial aid eligibility.

UMass Amherst electronically bills students. Spring semester bills are typically generated mid-December and due in mid-January, check the Bursar’s website for more information. You will receive an email in your UMass student email account letting you know when the bill is available to view on SPIRE. If someone else is helping to pay your bill, please set that person up as an authorized payer in the QuikPAY system. Learn more information about QuikPAY.

Please look for an email from the International Programs Office (IPO) with subject line: “UMass Amherst Visa Sponsorship”-- it will include the information below as well as other important details. Please do not submit documents to request your I-20 until you receive the email.

Applying for a student visa can take a lot of time and preparation. Be sure to start early! Upon receipt of the necessary documents and payment of your enrollment fee, we will send you the I-20 form. This is the form that U.S. schools issue to international students to indicate they have met all admission requirements to enter that school. You must take this form with you when you apply to the American Embassy or Consulate for a visa.

If you are already in the U.S. on a F-1 visa status, your UMass Amherst I-20 can only be issued after you submit the required documents and complete the SEVIS transfer release process with your previous F-1 visa sponsor. Additional documentation is required and will be provided in your “Visa Sponsorship” email.

Once your enrollment deposit is processed, your next steps are centered around your New Student Experience (NSE). Your New Student Experience includes all of the onboarding tasks and transformational activities you’ll complete as a part of joining our vibrant community. New Student Orientation & Transitions (NSOT) facilitates three of these components: Guide to the U, Ready for the U, and Welcome to the U. 

Students admitted for the fall semester will gain access to Guide to the U on April 1. On May 1 you’ll be able to register for Ready for the U. Welcome to the U begins in September upon your arrival to campus. 

Students admitted for the spring semester will gain access to Guide to the U on December 15. In December, you’ll be able to register for Ready for the U. Welcome to the U will take place throughout the first month on campus.

Massachusetts law requires college students to be immunized against several diseases. Immunization updates will be posted to this page with more information about the immunization requirements for all students.

Disability Services is here to make sure everyone has equal access to college life—academics, campus events, and everything in between. Disability accommodations in higher education are different from those you may have had previously, so Disability Services will not know if you need support until you register for accommodations. Whether you have a permanent disability, a temporary disability (like injuries or surgeries), or just aren’t sure if you qualify, it’s worth checking out what’s available.
