Every year, we welcome more than 1,500 transfer students to UMass Amherst and MassTransfer students are about a third of our incoming class. MassTransfer students are a highly valued group of students in our community, with each student bringing various experiences and perspectives to campus.

Many STEM majors at UMass Amherst require Calculus or Pre-Calculus as part of the major requirements. Visit the website of your intended major for information about math courses you may want to take at your community college prior to transferring.

If you want to pursue a nutrition major, you are encouraged to have completed at least two semesters of general chemistry equivalent to Chem 111 and 112, and one semester of biology equivalent to Bio 151, and be prepared to take Organic Chemistry. While not required, the following courses are also helpful to have completed for the nutrition major: Organic Chemistry I and II, Anatomy & Physiology, a microbiology course with a lab, a business class, Introductory Psychology, and Statistics.

If you want to major in kinesiology, you should be prepared to start or finish Applied Calculus I and II before entering UMass. Completion of the following courses prior to transferring is recommended: Calculus I, General Chemistry for Science Majors, Introductory Physics, and two semesters of Anatomy and Physiology with labs.
