Admissions PSA: Early Action Decisions

Why Release Decisions in Batches?

Our admissions team releases decisions in batches, rather than all decisions released on a single date. While our approach is different from some other universities, we have found that it has a number of advantages. Releasing batches of decisions allows UMass Amherst to let applicants know the decision sooner than if we held all decisions for release on one date. Also, we care about connecting with our admitted students and introducing them to the UMass Amherst community, and by spacing out admission decisions we are able to provide better individualized responses for those who contact admissions, financial aid, and campus partners with questions. While that other university may tell you the exact day to expect a decision, our approach is student-focused; specifically on the best outcome for students who have applied to UMass Amherst.

What If My Decision Isn’t in This Batch?

If you didn’t receive your decision at the same time as others, there’s no reason to stress! There will be additional waves of EA admit decisions. Those who don’t receive a decision immediately should check their portal periodically to be sure UMass Amherst Admissions has all the application materials we need. If a decision is available about a students’ admission to UMass Amherst, they will receive an email instructing them to log into their student portal, where the admission decision information will be posted.

Best wishes to all our applicants. At UMass Amherst we don’t wait for change, we create it. This innovative spirit inspires us, and we hope it inspires you to apply. Whatever college you decide to attend, we hope it offers the chance to make your educational experience an unforgettable one like what we offer at UMass Amherst.
