UMass Amherst Lettuce Club

As a first-year student at UMass, becoming involved in clubs and student-led organizations was one of the best decisions I made. It opened my eyes to new opportunities and allowed me to meet people simply through pursuing my passions. Whether you’re interested in educating yourself on psychedelics or eating a head of lettuce, there’s certainly a club for everyone here at UMass.

Interested in competing against your fellow students to devour a head of lettuce? Check out the Lettuce Eating Club, a club that meets once a year to do just that. “We held our first-ever competition in April and it was a lot of fun,” shared sophomore Keira Doyle, social media manager for the club. “There was a great turnout!” The winner of the competition is crowned the president of the club for the following year, and then it happens all over again. “I joined at first because it seemed really interesting. It’s fun because it brings together a lot of different people” Keira said.

One perk I’ve discovered from joining clubs is that it provides a much-needed breather from academic obligations. It is so crucial to set time aside for your hobbies in college. Especially amidst the stress of studying for midterms, I find myself constantly looking forward to my club meetings and events. For example, I’m a part of WMUA, the student-run radio station of UMass. As a member, I get to host a weekly radio show with my friends, and it’s so much fun for us. Even when I’m drowning in work, I always have WMUA to be excited about. Finding a club that I genuinely enjoy has done so much for me.

No matter what your interests are, you can find the club that’s right for you. Head to Campus Pulse and start the search today!
