Top Ten Places on Campus

UMass Amherst is a large campus with so many great things to do and places to explore. This is why we have shared the top ten places on campus that you need to visit. Some, more than once!

1. Blue Wall

At the Blue Wall you can use your dining dollars or YMCP money to get food in between classes if you don’t want to walk to a dining hall. (Unfortunately, they do not accept meal swipes—bummer!)

2. Fine Arts Center (FAC)

Often there are exhibits going on that you can check out. Even when events aren’t going on, the Fine Arts Center can be a great place to get your work done in a quiet space.

3. W.E.B. DuBois Library

There are 30 floors in the Du Bois Library and it is packed with knowledge. You can find printing stations in the lower level, as well as desktop computers available for use. Visit the Writing Center on the lower level to ace your first college English assignment!

Malcolm X Cultural Center

4. Malcolm X Cultural Center

Located in the Southwest Residential Area, the Malcolm X Cultural Center provides a space for students to participate in cultural events, social events, and de-stressing events.

Durfee Conservatory

5. Durfee Conservatory

The Durfee Conservatory provides an oasis of calm and serene vibes in an otherwise busy campus. It is an excellent place to de-stress and feel one with nature. In the “Rainforest Room,” you can warm up during the cold Massachusetts winters.

6. UMass Campus Hotel Plaza

As weather starts to warm up, you will see more students enjoying their time on the Hotel Plaza. It is a great place to study, bask in the sun, and even take Instagram pictures!

Franklin Grab N Go

7. Franklin Dining Commons Grab 'n' Go

Frank Grab ‘n’ Go is the best grab ‘n’ go on campus. From breakfast sandwiches in the morning, to sushi and General Tso’s chicken at lunch, Frank Grab ‘n’ Go is a great place to get food between classes. Frank is conveniently located in front of Central Residential Area.

New Africa House

8. New Africa House

Home to the Afro-American Studies department and the Center for Women and Community, the New Africa House is a beautiful building inside and out. Although it can be out of the way for students who don’t live in Central, many find themselves studying, learning, and hanging out at New Africa House.

9. Student Union

The Student Union is recently updated and reopened in the fall of 2020. The Student Union is home to Student Engagement & Leadership, the Student Government Association, many student-run businesses, and several dining options. It features a new “black box” theater and an expanded student space. As UMass Amherst is moving toward being an ever more environmentally friendly campus, the new student union is now a more sustainable building.

Isenberg Business Hub

10. Isenberg Business Innovation Hub

One of the newest buildings on campus, the hub is mainly geared toward Isenberg students (most of the tabling set up in the hub is for them). Nevertheless, the study space is used by students of all majors and schools. There is a café as well as a huge amount of meeting spaces. Let your ideas run free here!
