Calling All Singers: Meet the Vocal Suspects!
Do you have a passion for singing? Are you looking to explore these passions on a collegiate level, while meeting fellow UMass students who share the same interests? If these apply to you, try out for Vocal Suspects!
Vocal Suspects is UMass Amherst’s first mixed acapella group on campus. Since 1999, the CARA award-nominated group has shared their passion for naturally creating music. The self-arranged, self-choreographed group is not your typical acapella. With the goal of being “innovative” and “electrifying,” the group strives to “bring positive energy and good music” wherever they go.
Vocal Suspects pride themselves in selecting songs they enjoy singing and always keeping their repertoire of music up-to-date. They’re not afraid to switch it up, and they choose music according to each new talent that is brought to the group every year. Not only do they sound amazing, but you can tell how much they love doing what they do. This is most evident when you see them live. The combined adoration for making music is obvious, leaving their audiences in awe. If you want to be a part of this when you get to UMass, be sure to audition! The members are professional, friendly, and they all just want to do the same thing: share their talents with our campus.
The group is in the process of recording an album and will be hosting their annual “Acappellooza” event on March 29th, which will feature all 10 of UMass’s acapella groups. If you are interested in learning more about the group dynamics and their performances, this is a great way to do so. To learn more, check out their website and social media accounts.
The possibilities of clubs are endless at UMass. From acapella, to club sports, to design, to political organizations, to Greek life, and beyond, you will be sure to find your perfect fit when you come here. Joining RSOs (registered-student organizations) is a great way to give back to the UMass community by getting involved with on-campus events while meeting people who share the same interests as you. As a new student to UMass, it’s critical to get involved in as many RSOs as possible so you can find your passions. And be sure to listen to Vocal Suspects, too. You won’t regret it.
