Dining in Amherst during COVID-19

Downtown Amherst is alive and well throughout this pandemic and doing it safely. There are tons of restaurants open downtown for take-out and, depending on your comfort level, indoor and outdoor seating. Here are some places I’ve been able to check out so far while I've been living off campus in Amherst!

Bistro 63

I was able to go to Bistro 63 recently, and we got to sit at their awesome outdoor back deck, which I never even knew existed before I ate there! This was my first time at Bistro 63 and my food was great! I would definitely recommend checking it out — just remember to bring a mask for when you are waiting to be seated.

Antonio’s Pizza

Offering online ordering, take-out and outdoor seating located right in front of the restaurant, Antonio's Pizza is making it super easy to grab a single slice or a whole pie. I’ve also gotten take-out from Antonio’s downtown a few times already this year. If you haven’t tried it, I can’t recommend their pizza enough. It’s pretty much world famous at this point; even Harrison Ford (Han Solo) stopped by a few years ago to try it.

The Works Café

If you’re looking for breakfast or lunch, The Works Café is right downtown and has one of the easiest online ordering systems I’ve used. You can place your order online, and your food will be waiting right through the front door for you to grab it and be on your way. The Works also has a large front patio with tables if you’re looking to eat there. The Works has the best bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches and breakfast burritos!

La Veracruzana

If you’re in the mood for Mexican cuisine, La Veracruzana downtown is offering take-out, and outdoor and indoor dining as well. You can order online from La Veracruzana, or you can go into the restaurant (wearing a mask) and order from the counter. My friend and I were able to grab a table outside while we waited for our food, and got to eat right outside.

Another fun idea for eating out downtown is getting take out from any restaurant downtown and bringing it to Amherst Common, and having a picnic-style dinner, or eating at one of the picnic tables available!

These are just a few of the many restaurants downtown safely offering take-out, delivery, and outdoor dining that you can check out in Amherst. When eating out downtown I felt safe and comfortable. Walking around, everyone wore masks and respected social distancing and tables outside were spaced adequately apart. Being able to enjoy downtown Amherst is always an exciting alternative to my apartment, or going to campus!
