UMass Amherst offers a variety of resources, programs, and tools to support and improve many aspects of your wellbeing.

Taking Care of Your Mind, Body and Spirit There are many programs and places  on campus to support you and the health  of your entire self -- physically, mentally,  creatively and spiritually
  • Campus Recreation offers a variety of fitness programs, personal and group fitness classes and wellbeing resources that are open to staff and faculty. Yoga classes are offered here as well as at the Newmass Yoga.
  • The Body Shop Fitness Center offers a smaller workout space, and access to personal trainers.
  • University Health Services provides comprehensive health and wellness services for the UMass Amherst campus community.
  • Religious and Spiritual Life offers weekly Meditation Groups.
  • Consider scheduling a walking meeting.
  • Need motivation to take a walk at lunch? Visit one of the art galleries on campus, tour the trees on campus with this map or visit the Durfee Conservatory, a lovely greenhouse complex local near UHS. 
Managing Hardship Staff and faculty have access to a range of mental health and counseling support. Workshops are offered through various offices
  • The Employee Counseling and Consultation Office (ECCO), formerly known as the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), is a free and confidential counseling, consultation, and referral service that assists employees in resolving personal, work-related, and family problems.
  • The Office of Faculty Development hosts Wellbeing Workshops for faculty throughout the year and provides resources and tips specific to faculty career advancement.
  • Optum is an on-line Employee Assistance Program for Faculty and staff, that hold workshops and provides resources. (UMass employees use access code: Mass4You)
  • Workplace Learning and Development has some online self-guided resources on stress and wellness. WLD certified coaches are happy to meet individually with staff and faculty for consultations. One time consults are free.
  • The Center for Women and Community is open to all genders and offers counseling, support and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Safe Passage is a community organization for survivors of domestic violence.
Connecting With Others UMass Amherst offers many ways for you to connect with other employee communities on campus
  • The Office of Equity and Inclusion hosts a variety of Employee Resource Groups that facilitate employees connecting around shared identities. Currently, there are groups formed for POC, people with disabilities, international employees, veterans and the LGBTQIA community.
  • The office of Equity and Inclusion in cooperation with Workplace Learning and Development also hosts cross-campus book groups and discussion groups focused on campus climate.
  • Building Bridges is a program that uses art and creativity to bring people together from around campus. It ends in a showcase of employee art.
  • The Office of Faculty Development hosts writing groups and mutual mentoring programs for faculty.
  • The Employee Counseling and Consultation Office (ECCO) offers periodic groups focused on topics such as parenting, eldercare and living alone during COVID. Interested in a particular group? Let ECCO know!
  • Cojourn@UMass for Staff & Faculty is a peer-to-peer program to support well-being. Cojourn partners meet regularly to share goals and set steps to achieve them, in an accountable and safe partnership. UMass offers CoJourn each semester.
  • Workshops held by Workplace Learning and Development can be a great way to meet people from across campus.
  • Getting involved in your Union can be a great way to meet people and find out what’s happening on campus.
     

    Committing to Meaningful Goals Our own sense of wellbeing is very tied to our  feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction  with our work. UMass offers several ways  for you to move forward in your work life
  • Workplace Learning and Development has many resources and workshops to help you explore skill development.
  • The Office of Faculty Development has many resources and workshops for faculty.
  • The Partnership for Worker Education offers learning opportunities and information on career ladders for frontline workers. They also offer career counseling. Email Leslie Frasier for more information on career counseling options
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning offers workshops, consultations and resources to support your growth as a teacher.
  • Cojourn@UMass for Staff & Faculty is a peer-to-peer program to support well-being. Cojourn partners meet regularly to share goals and set steps to achieve them, in an accountable and safe partnership. UMass offers CoJourn each semester.
  • Linkedln Learning is an online library of in-depth courses on a myriad of subjects from creative tech tools and techniques to business skills and career advancement. UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff have unlimited access at no cost.
  • The Instructional Media Lab offers workshops and help for classroom technology like Moodle and Echo360.
  • UMass Amherst is a member of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, giving faculty free access to many helpful resources, including time management.
