Flex Work at UMass

Video calling some one on laptop

At UMass Amherst, we appreciate that Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) can support our academic and business objectives of providing exceptional service to our students and community members while also promoting our goals related to employee engagement, retention, recruitment, and overall employee satisfaction. Our FWAs offer hybrid or remote work options to enhance staff members’ professional and personal lives.

While there are certain positions that require an on-campus presence or standard hours, there are many others that can benefit from a more flexible framework. Decisions regarding eligibility are made based on the nature of the role and the department’s operational needs. We encourage you to have a conversation with your supervisor to determine if you might be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Getting Started:

1. Review Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with the FWA guidelines. These guidelines outline expectations and best practices for successful flexible work arrangements.

2. Complete and Submit the FWA Form: Be sure to review the instructions prior to completing the FWA form. Once complete, the form will be routed for review by your supervisor and your unit’s vice chancellor/dean/designee. You will receive notification by email once the approval process is complete.

3.  Explore our Flex Work Resources: There are a variety of options available, from WLD workshops to LinkedIn Learning trainings, for building your workplace skills in a flexible work environment that will benefit you in all aspects of your work.

If you have specific flex work questions related to your role, please speak with your supervisor or contact an HR representative in your unit or department. Any general questions or issues related to the form or guidelines can be submitted through AskHR and one of our team members will be happy to assist you.
