Long-Tenured Staff Celebrated at Length of Service Awards

August 26, 2026 Community

More than 400 UMass Amherst staff and administrators were recognized for their tenure and contributions to the university at the Length of Service Award Celebration, held on Haigis Mall Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The celebration honored those who have completed 10 or more years of service to the university, in five-year increments. Members of campus leadership were on hand to recognize honorees, who received milestone certificates and keepsakes.
Among the longest-tenured employees recognized at the ceremony were Elizabeth Wiernasz, a registrar in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in the College of Natural Sciences, and Richard Nathhorst, research facilities manager in Research and Engagement, who were honored for their 55 and 50 years of service to the university, respectively.

More than 120 staff and administrators were first-time honorees, recognized for 10 years of service.

“Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone, and thank you for your dedication to helping make UMass Amherst exceptional in every way,” Chancellor Javier Reyes said to all of the assembled honorees in his remarks. “While your contributions to our university are too numerous to list, the individual and collective impact that you have made—and continue to make—in strengthening our community reminds us of what makes UMass such a special place: our people.”

The event was followed by Lunch on the Lawn, at which all university employees were welcome to enjoy assorted lunch offerings by award-winning UMass Dining through the afternoon.
