UMass Amherst is supportive of employees as they balance their career and family life, providing benefited employees paid time off (sick, vacation, and/or personal time) and paid holidays.
A leave of absence may be necessary for a variety of reasons. Employees may require a leave of absence due to their own serious or recurring illness/injury, in order to care for a family member, for parental leave purposes, or for reasons related to U.S. military service. To arrange a leave of absence, employees must follow the leave of absence application process described on the Leaves of Absence page. Income security may be available from a number of sources.
Employees whose positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement should refer to their collective bargaining agreement for additional information regarding leaves of absence.
