UHS for UMass Employees

UHS accepts many UMass employee insurance plans! If your insurance plan is not listed above, you can contact our Patient Services department to inquire if we accept your plan: (413) 577-5192. Accepted plans are subject to change.

• If you have an HMO plan UHS accepts, you will need to switch your primary care provider (PCP) to a UHS PCP before your first primary care or general medicine appointment, or before using UHS Urgent Treatment Clinic.
• If you have a PPO plan UHS accepts, you do not need to designate a PCP before using UHS.
• Most insurance plans can be used at UHS Pharmacy; call (413) 577-5030 to inquire.

1. Choose a provider from our Provider Directory.
2. Call (413) 577-5101 or join the "Request an Appointment" Callback Queue to make an appointment for primary care. Our staff will verify that your insurance is accepted at UHS.
3. Before your appointment, switch your PCP. You may be able to do this on your insurance plan's website, or call the customer service number on your insurance card.

If you have an HMO plan, you must switch your PCP to a UHS PCP before using UHS for medical care, including our Urgent Treatment Clinic. You can use UHS Pharmacy and specialty services like Eye Care & Optical Services, Acupuncture, Nutrition, Travel Medicine, and Physical Therapy without a UHS PCP. Insurance coverage for these services varies depending on your plan.

If you have a PPO plan UHS accepts, you can use UHS without designating a primary care provider.

Yes! Explore our Provider Directory to learn about our primary care providers and choose one who seems like a good fit for you. If after seeing them you think you want to make a change, no problem - you can choose a different PCP at any time.

UHS is open year-round!

Fall and Spring Semester Hours:

• Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (5 p.m. to 8 p.m. = urgent treatment services only)
• Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (urgent treatment services only)

Winter and Summer Intersession Hours:

• Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, Closed

Call (413) 577-5101 to schedule an appointment or join the "Request an Appointment" Callback Queue.

To join the queue:

1. Go to the UHS QLess Kiosk during UHS business hours
2. Enter your cell phone number
3. Click "Request an Appointment"
4. Enter the reason for your appointment
5. You will receive a text confirming that you have joined the queue with your estimated wait time
6. A receptionist will call you; be sure to answer your phone!

UHS has the best appointment availability in the region! Same-day and next-day appointments may be available for urgent needs. For non-urgent needs, you can typically be seen within 2 weeks. Appointment availability is even better during winter and summer intersessions!

If you have a UHS PCP or a PPO plan UHS accepts, you can use UHS's Urgent Treatment Clinic.

1. Go to the UHS QLess Kiosk during UHS business hours
2. Enter your cell phone number
3. Click "Urgent Treatment Clinic"
4. Enter a brief description of your symptoms
5. You will receive a text with your place in line, and another text when it's your turn to check in at UHS
6. After you receive the text that it's your turn to check in at UHS, you have 20 minutes to arrive and check in at Urgent Treatment Clinic
7. You can send a text to ask for more time or leave the queue
8. Once checked in and triaged, patients are seen in order of urgency

Yes, UHS has health advice available by phone 24/7. 

During UHS business hours, you can join the Ask a Nurse Callback Queue to receive a call from a nurse about a non-urgent health question.

3. Click "Ask a Nurse"
4. Enter your health question
5. You will receive a text with your estimated wait time
6. A nurse will call you; be sure to answer your phone!

Or you can call our Triage Nurse Advice line: (413) 577-5229. During business hours, leave a message, and a nurse will call you back. After hours, you will be connected with our clinical answering service.

Yes! Spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children of UMass employees can be seen at UHS if they have insurance we accept. They can follow the same steps as you would to make an appointment, use UHS for urgent care, and switch to a UHS PCP.

We have comprehensive pediatric care for children of UMass employees!

Yes! You can log into the UMass Patient Portal using your UMass Net ID and password at https://umass.medicatconnect.com.

Patients can use the UMass Patient Portal to securely communicate with UHS providers, complete required forms, renew prescriptions, view test results and discharge summaries, and more.

Please note that we do not have a pediatric portal at this time.
