Pediatrics

If you’ve got kids, you know the importance of great pediatric care. You also know that juggling work or school with medical appointments isn’t easy. That’s where UHS comes in!

Pediatrics and family practice specialists care for the children of UMass Amherst students, faculty and staff at our convenient campus location. Our on-site lab and radiology departments, full-service pharmacy and Urgent Treatment Clinic are here when you need us! We offer care for infants, children and adolescents. This includes:

  • routine well-care visits from newborn through age 18 (and beyond)
  • sick visits
  • immunizations
  • travel medicine
  • hearing screening and vision screening
  • lactation support
  • developmental and behavioral visits
  • adolescent gynecological visits
  • referrals for allergists, eye specialists, neurology, psychiatry, orthopedics, and others

Before Your First Visit

  • Please obtain your child's medical and immunization records and bring them to UHS at least 2 days prior to your child's first visit.
  • Save time by downloading the Pediatric Assessment Form; bring the completed form to your appointment.

Routine Care

  • For well visits and problems that are not emergencies, call (413) 577-5101 to make an appointment, or Request an Appointment in the UHS QLess Kiosk.
  • If it's your child's first visit with us, please arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled appointment to register.
  • Established patients should arrive 15 minutes early for appointments, to allow for any necessary testing or paperwork.

Urgent Treatment

  • If your child needs same-day urgent treatment and they have a UHS primary care provider (PCP), come to our Urgent Treatment Clinic. (If we are not your child's PCP, it is best that you schedule a visit with your child's own doctor for urgent care.)
  • You can use the online UHS QLess Kiosk to join the Urgent Treatment Clinic waiting room ahead of time. This will reduce your time spent waiting at UHS. You'll get a text with your place in line and another text when it's your turn to check in at UHS. You have 20 minutes to arrive once summoned and can send a text to ask for more time or leave the queue. Once checked in and triaged, patients are seen in order of urgency.
  • UHS is not a hospital. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911 for ambulance transportation to a hospital. The closest hospital to UMass is Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Health Advice

  • Ask a Nurse (Available during UHS business hours): Go to the online UHS QLess Kiosk to request a call back from a nurse. You will get a text message with your estimated wait time before the nurse will call you. You can send a text to ask for more time or leave the queue.
  • Health Advice Line (Available 24/7): Call (413) 577-5229. During business hours, leave a message; a nurse will call you back. After hours, you will be connected with our clinical answering service. You will get a call back from a nurse or from our on-call pediatrician.

Forms, Records and Prescriptions

  • To have medical forms completed for school or camp, obtain immunization records or request a prescription refill, call (413) 577-5000. Allow 2 business days for these to be completed.

Please Note:

  • There is no patient portal currently in our system for children.
  • Children's lab results are printed for pick up or mailing to parents.
  • We are unable to email lab results or communicate with you via email.
  • To directly communicate with a provider, please call (413) 577-5101 to leave a message for your provider.
