Emergency contraception (EC) is birth control you can use after unprotected sex. Depending on what type of EC you choose, it can be effective up to five (5) days after unprotected sex. You can get EC at University Health Services (UHS).
EC prevents a pregnancy after unprotected sex. Unlike medication abortion, which is also available at UHS, EC does not end a pregnancy and will not work if you are pregnant.
Methods of EC include intrauterine device (IUD), ulipristal acetate pills, and progestin pills. You can learn about all these methods here.

All EC methods are available through an appointment at UHS Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic.

EC Without an Appointment
You can also access EC pills without an appointment. Purchase them over the counter at a pharmacy (including UHS Pharmacy) or visit UHS Urgent Treatment Clinic to get a prescription.
