Instructions for...
All UMass students can use UHS, regardless of health insurance. For most UMass students, UHS is the most affordable, convenient, and accessible choice for local healthcare.
To start using UHS, call (413) 577-5101 to schedule an appointment, or join the virtual waiting room for same-day urgent care. Our staff will take care of the rest.
Benefits of using UHS include...
- Students taking 5+ credits do not pay copays for provider visits at UHS!
- For Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) members, most services at UHS are 100% covered! That means you can use UHS without paying anything out-of-pocket (exceptions include pharmacy copays, eye care copays, and ultrasounds). The SHBP is a Cigna PPO plan that can be used nationwide.
- We accept MassHealth! Learn More
- UHS is just for U! Our staff specializes in college health and understands the unique needs and concerns of college students.
Using Private Insurance
If you have private insurance, whether or how much you need to pay out of pocket when you use UHS depends on your plan, whether UHS is in-network, and/or if your plan has out-of-network benefits. Call your insurance company for more information.
If you have an HMO insurance plan and a non-UHS primary care provider (PCP), we will need to obtain a referral from your PCP for care you receive at UHS. Our referrals specialists coordinate this process. If you have a PPO plan, you do not need a referral to use UHS. For both HMO and PPO plans, you may need to pay out-of-pocket towards your plan's deductible.
Want the convenience of an on-campus PCP?
Choose from 15+ excellent UHS PCPs specializing in college health! For HMO plans, call your insurance company and tell them you want to switch to a UHS PCP. Then call (413) 577-5101 to schedule an initial visit with your provider of choice.
UMass faculty & staff and their spouses, domestic partners and dependent children are eligible to use UHS! Our primary care and pediatric providers are taking new patients. UMass community members can use our pharmacy, eye clinic, and more specialty services. As a UHS patient, you'll be able to enjoy the convenience of same-day urgent care in our Walk-In Clinic,* and our on-site laboratory and radiology departments!
Patients with HMO insurance plans should designate a UHS primary care provider with their insurance company before scheduling an initial visit. Then call (413) 577-5101 to make an appointment!
*If you have PPO insurance that UHS accepts, you can use our Walk-In Clinic without being a primary care patient.
