New Graduate Student Employment
All new graduate student employees are required to submit a completed hiring packet to Human Resources prior to starting
Welcome, we are so excited to have you as a graduate student employee at UMass Amherst!
Human Resources must be in receipt of your completed New Graduate Student Employee Hiring packet prior to the start of your employment.
The following will assist in your successfully completing this process (and our ability to pay your salary timely):
- Please complete all pages of the New Graduate Student Employee Hiring packet; a digital signature field is provided where digital signatures are acceptable.
- The I-9 employment Eligibility Verification form is part of the hiring packet. You may complete this form in one of two ways:
- Recommended:
Bring your original, unexpired I-9 supporting documents to the UMass Amherst Human Resources Employee Service Center during our hours of public operation. When you come to the Service Center, bring your completed hiring packet - you can submit your hiring forms all at once! - Less efficient:
Bring your original, unexpired I-9 supporting documents to a notary public who is willing to assist you in completing the I-9 form. The notary will complete Section 2 of the form on behalf of the University. The HR website provides instructions to assist the notary public. Once complete, upload your completed hiring forms (including I-9 form and copies of the I-9 supporting documents) as a single PDF file online using this upload link. The file should be named: YourLastName, YourFirstName.pdf. For instance, if your name is Yuan Chen, the file you upload should be named "Chen, Yuan.pdf"
- Recommended:
- If you are an international student who will be working in the United States (US) but is not yet in the US, you cannot complete the hiring forms until you enter the US. Prior to bringing your hiring forms to the HR Employee Service Center please make certain you download and print your most recent I-94 off the USCIS website.
