Time Reporting Management
Time and Attendance
Entering Time and Attendance (Labor)
Employees enter their worked hours and accrued time themselves through Employee Self-Service or a timekeeper enters it for the employee. An employee's supervisor will let the employee know which process applies. Time and labor (attendance) is entered in an online timesheet in HR Direct. Once time has been entered into the time sheet it then needs to be approved either through the UMTL706 batch process or approved by a supervisor. Below are links to job aids to help explain these processes.

Entering Late Hours
Hours that need to be entered for an employee for a prior pay period need to be sent to Human Resources for processing using one of the two forms linked below. The Time and Attendance Correction form is used for changing entered time for prior periods for Exception Time Reporters (bi-weekly salary). The Time and Attendance Late Pay form is used to add hours to a prior period for Positive Time Reporters (hourly rate). When completed, these forms should be sent to timeandlabor [at] umass [dot] edu.

University Time & Labor Cascading Leave Policy
Employees on an approved leave may request to be unpaid or to secure income using accrued sick, vacation, compensatory and/or personal time consistent with definitions set forth in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) or Non-Unit policy, whichever applies to their position. Unless unpaid leave is explicitly requested the University's time & labor cascading leave policy will be applied. If an employee is out of work requesting:
- Sick leave* and does not have enough accrued sick time to secure income for the full period of approved leave:
Sick > Personal > Vacation > Unpaid time ("no pay")
- Vacation leave and does not have enough accrued vacation time to secure income for the full period of approved leave:
Vacation > Personal > Unpaid time ("no pay")
- Personal leave and does not have enough accrued personal time to secure income for the full period of approved leave:
Personal > Vacation > Unpaid time ("no pay")
- Holiday compensatory ("comp") time** and does not have enough accrued holiday compensatory time to secure income for the full period of approved leave:
Holiday comp. > Overtime comp. > Unpaid time ("no pay")
- Overtime compensatory ("comp") time** and does not have enough accrued overtime compensatory time to secure income for the full period of approved leave:
Overtime comp. > Holiday comp. > Unpaid time ("no pay")
* This is a mandatory element of the cascading leave policy.
** Requires employee notification.
