Comprehensive Internship Pathways
About
Linking Employment to Academic Development (LEAD) Programs offer students the opportunity to spend a semester engaged in internships in Greater Boston alongside academic coursework.
The Charles River Campus (formerly the Mount Ida Campus) facilitates access to internship opportunities in Greater Boston, where the majority of UMass Amherst graduates begin their careers. Research shows that students with internship experience are significantly more likely to secure employment after graduation.
LEAD programs emphasize career preparation by combining hands-on internship experiences with relevant coursework.
Students in these programs typically live on the Charles River Campus for the semester and enjoy:
- Award-winning UMass Dining
- Free parking
- Free rec center and free membership to the YMCA (located adjacent to campus)
- Free transportation to the MBTA and select internship sites.
- Thriving, hiring companies all around you
- Access to Boston activities and events
Increase your career readiness and come spend the semester with us at the Charles River Campus of UMass Amherst!
Note: Comprehensive internship pathways in Biology and Applied Humanities are scheduled to launch in the 2026-27 academic year, so check back here for updates.
