“These offerings stimulate exploration of the arts and nurture a lifelong habit of active participation in literary endeavors,” says Randall Knoper, English department chair. “They create a positive impact on the commonwealth, adding to the university’s long tradition of intellectual and educational leadership and community engagement. Annual grants from MCC also help Juniper leverage significant funds from private donors and foundations.” The Juniper Initiative for Arts and Action (JIAA) is housed in the English department’s MFA Program for Poets and Writers.

The JIAA is pleased to once again host the Visiting Writers Series in-person on campus this fall, in accordance with the university’s COVID-19 protocols. The Juniper Summer Writing Institute will also take place on campus in June.

Since 2004, Juniper’s offerings have brought hundreds of people to the region each year for readings and literary events that provide an economic boost to local business and institutions.
