HR Modernization

The Future of HR at UMass Amherst

About

The HR Modernization Plan is designed as a continuous, evolving process:

  • Strategic, proactive support: HR will be more than a transactional service; it will be a trusted partner in workforce planning, engagement, and organizational development.
  • Centralized expertise, distributed partnership: Specialized work is centralized, while HRBPs remain embedded with colleges and units to provide tailored advice.
  • Data-informed and transparent: Metrics, feedback, and engagement data will guide service improvements and decision-making.
  • Enhanced employee experience: Clear processes, accessible resources, and coordinated services will improve clarity, consistency, and satisfaction.
  • Continuous evolution: HR will adjust policies, tools, and services as campus needs and higher education best practices change.

This modernization ensures that HR at UMass Amherst is equipped to support the university’s mission now and into the future.
