Virtual Tour of Campus Now Available on Admissions Website
The Undergraduate Admissions Office has launched a virtual 360-degree online campus tour, now accessible to prospective students and their families on the University’s undergraduate admissions website.
The tour showcases dozens of points of interest along 13 stops across campus and one in downtown Amherst. A “virtual guide” describes the locations and highlights of each stop along the way, and viewers can choose to watch supplemental information at each location that provides even more insight into the campus experience.
“We’re thrilled to make this valuable new resource available to our online visitors,” says James Roche, vice provost for enrollment management. “We have more than 40,000 prospective students and relatives visit the Amherst campus every year, and we know there are many more from throughout the world who would love to do the same but can’t. The virtual tour now makes it possible for them to experience the campus through images and video, where they can discover all the incredible opportunities that await them. The virtual tour comes about as close as you can to being at UMass Amherst without actually setting foot on campus.”
Viewing the tour’s campus and Amherst stops takes just under 30 minutes. The full, in-depth experience provided by all the available content offers close to three hours of an immersive campus experience.
Working in conjunction with YouVisit, the Enrollment Management office created the virtual tour. Planning and pre-production of the tour spanned months, with taping occurring over three days in late May. Various staff from the Enrollment Management helped map out and plan the tour, including Roche; Myrna Flynn, director of communications and events; Matthew Medeiros, associate director of digital communication; and Gretchen Siegchrist, associate director of digital communications. Among the YouVisit crew was alumnus Ben Leonberg, class of 2010, who served as creative director during the taping of the tour.
