Torrey Trust, professor of learning technology in the College of Education, was a featured speaker at the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) Annual Conference held in Seattle, Washington on Nov. 20-22.

This year’s conference, themed “Student Centered: Data Informed,” offered hands-on learning workshops, training sessions and keynote and plenary presentations delivered by diverse speakers from member institutions. Presenters spoke about unique data-informed approaches and solutions for promoting student success in response to the ever-changing learning environment and addressed generative artificial intelligence, the current post-election landscape for higher education, and more.

Trust’s feature presentation was titled, “AI and the Future of Higher Education.” Her work centers on the critical examination of the relationship between teaching, learning, and technology; and how technology can support teachers in designing contexts that enhance student learning.

The NWCCU is an independent, non-profit membership organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the regional authority on educational quality and institutional effectiveness of higher education institutions in the seven-state Northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The organization works to provide accreditation for higher education institutions by applying data and evidence-informed standards to “support continuous improvements and promote equitable student achievement and success.”
