Inaugurated in 2017, Building Bridges is a campus-wide public art and engagement initiative that draws on the power of solidarity and creative expression to bring people together and create a bridge across difference. The annual showcase event celebrates the work and stories of worker artists at UMass.

This year, the showcase features work from over 65 worker artists across campus. The art installation—curated and installed by participants in the Showcasing Worker Artists class, a core Building Bridges offering through PWE—will be on view from noon until 7 p.m., with an opening reception at noon and artist demonstrations and workshops scheduled throughout the afternoon.

Poetry and prose readings by worker writers, a performance by the UMass Unions United Labor Chorus, and music from an array of worker musicians will round out the event starting at 4pm. The event is free and open to the public. A full schedule can be found on the 2023 Building Bridges Website.

Building Bridges is a collaboration between the Partnership for Worker Education, Civic Engagement and Service-Learning, and the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

The Partnership for Worker Education, Office of Human Resources, is an innovative educational partnership between the UMass staff unions on campus and human resources. This office provides education, training, and dynamic career ladder programming on campus and across the commonwealth.
