The College of Humanities & Fine Arts (HFA) will again be opening its classroom doors from March 23 to April 1 to the campus and regional communities for its third annual HFA Days, a series of immersive events and opportunities showcasing research, teaching, learning and collaboration in the humanities and fine arts.

Organized by HFA Associate Dean for Research and Engagement Pari Riahi in collaboration with the college’s faculty, staff and students, HFA Days will include Open Classrooms, Faculty Lightning Talks, a Centers & Initiatives Panel, and special programs and activities held across campus highlighting the work of HFA’s departments and communities. All events are free and open to the public.

“HFA Days reflects what makes this college extraordinary—the breadth and rigor of the scholarship happening here every day,” said HFA Dean Maria del Guadalupe “Lupe” Davidson. “We invite the campus and the wider community to come learn alongside our students and experience firsthand what it means to think critically about the world.”

Open Classrooms, held March 23 to April 1, invite guests to step into the role of student and experience classes across the college. Students can explore courses in visual arts, architecture research, Greek archeology, fundamentals of speech, jazz dance, Italian studies, stage movement in theater, philosophy, African history, politics in the Middle East, Caribbean literature, coding and art, music and more.

HFA’s Open Classroom initiative was created in collaboration with Center for Teaching and Learning under the supervision of Associate Provost and Director Emerita Claire Hamilton and in consultation with Interim Director Brian Baldi.

More information, including scheduling and registration – which is required due to classroom capacity – is available on the HFA Days: Open Classrooms website.

Faculty Lightning Talks, scheduled for HFA Days on March 26-27 as part of the Scholarship + Creative Work + Pedagogy programming, will feature several HFA faculty presenting 10-minute “lightning” talks on their ongoing research and creative projects. Topics range from artificial intelligence to Arizona’s soil and landscapes, the Black Arts Movement, and 20th century Italian authors to name a few.

The Centers & Initiatives Panel on March 26 will highlight a handful of the college’s major ongoing projects and initiatives through 15-minute presentations, including Slavery North and the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide and Memory Studies.

HFA Days will also include special programs and activities such as pedagogical discussions, undergraduate students success stories, graduate student spotlights, an MFA thesis exhibition, a student art sale and open studios.

Complete information, including full details for all events and activities, can be found on the HFA Days Events website.
