Alicia Hong, professor in the Department of Health Administration and Policy at George Mason University, will present “From Information to Intelligence: Health Communication in a Digital World,” Tuesday, April 28, at 10 a.m. in Thompson Hall, Room 106.

Health communication has shifted from helping people find information to supporting real-time, personalized, and increasingly intelligent interactions. Part of the Center for Research on Families’ Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series, Hong’s talk will trace that evolution across internet use, patient-provider communication, digital interventions and the rise of AI. Hong will offer insights into what these changes mean for research, practice, and the future of health communication in a digital world.

Hong’s research focuses on digital health interventions, consumer health informatics, and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve health communication and outcomes among underserved populations. Her research has been funded by NIH, NSF, HRSA, CDC and private foundations with over 120 peer-reviewed publications. She has worked on health-related internet use, patient-provider communication, and mobile social media-based interventions, with a strong emphasis on healthy aging and chronic care.
