Christine Selby Gives Professional Presentations on Sport Psychology Guidelines and Eating Disorders in Athletes
Christine Selby, staff psychologist with the Center for Counseling and Psychological Health, facilitated several presentations at two different professional conferences this summer.
In July, Selby presented two workshops on eating disorders in athletes at the Annual Congress of the European Federation of Sport Psychology, held in Timișoara, Romania. The workshops, “Recognizing the Signs: Early Detection of Eating Disorders in Athletes” and “When High Athletic Identity and an Eating Disorder Become Intertwined,” involved discussion and experiential activities, along with limited didactics.
Selby also participated in “Introducing the APA Professional Practice Guidelines for Sport Psychology,” a “Critical Conversation Hour” at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association (APA), held in August in Washington, D.C. Selby is a contributing writer and on the final editorial team for these guidelines which, when formally approved, will become APA policy.
