The summit aims to shape real solutions to the commonwealth’s most pressing healthcare challenges, including recruiting and retaining healthcare workers, educating and training the future workforce, and addressing barriers of access and feasibility for those interested in healthcare careers.

The summit will feature the participation of a number of state legislators, major healthcare providers, state government officials, individuals working in health professions and faculty members and students from UMass Amherst's Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, among others.

Among the speakers will be UMass Amherst Chancellor Javier Reyes, College of Nursing Dean Allison Vorderstrasse, State Sen. Jo Comerford and State Rep. Mindy Domb. The keynote speaker is Joanne Marqusee, assistant secretary for operational effectiveness in the Massachusetts Office of Health and Human Services.

Robert Goldstein, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, will moderate a policy panel discussion on what steps are needed to assure the successful future of healthcare in the state with chairs of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing Rep. John Lawn (10th Middlesex) and Sen. Cindy Friedman (4th Middlesex), along with Steve Walsh, president and CEO of the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association.
