Watch: Peregrine Falcon Banding atop the Du Bois Library

Check out the Facebook video below of this year’s falcon chick – “Ian Bandwich Hale” – recently receiving its tracking band atop the Du Bois Library.

UMass Amherst Libraries and MassWildlife help peregrine falcon populations thrive by banding new chicks, an effort that lets conservation experts track falcon numbers. This year, the Minuteman Marching Band had the honor of naming the healthy baby bird, and they bestowed upon it the name of the group’s associate director.

More information about the DuBois Falcons – as well as a live YouTube “FalconCam” of the birds’ roost – can be found on the Library website.
