UMass Amherst Sociology Well Represented in American Sociological Association Elections

The American Sociological Association (ASA) announced the results of their 2021 elections and the UMass Amherst Department of Sociology is well represented with one professor, two alumni and a student winning their elections to four ASA offices.

Cedric de Leon, professor of sociology and director of the UMass Labor Center, has been voted in to a three-year term as a council member-at-large and a one-year term as chair-elect for the Section on Labor and Labor Movements; Rhys H. Williams, Ph.D. ’88 has been voted in to a two-year term on the Committee on Committees; Ken-Hou Lin, Ph.D. ’13 has been voted in to a two-year term on the Nominating Committee; and undergraduate student Isabel Levin has been elected to the Student Forum Advisory Board.

The ASA is a non-profit membership association based in Washington, D.C., founded in 1905. It boasts over 13,000 members and is “dedicated to advancing sociology as a scientific discipline and profession serving the public good.” Members include college and university faculty, researchers, students and practitioners.
