UMass Amherst will welcome campus and local community members to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Racial Healing Community Brunch in the Student Union Ballroom at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. All are welcome to join in community as the university celebrates King’s historic legacy of the civil rights movement and its lasting impact.

The featured speaker for the event is UMass System Trustee Imari K. Paris Jeffries, president and CEO of Embrace Boston, where he leads a movement for equity and justice through art, culture and community organizing. His work explores how cities can build the social infrastructure that democracy requires and how art can remind us not only of who we have been, but who we might yet become.

Under his leadership, Embrace Boston has advanced belonging through The Embrace monument, the forthcoming Embrace Meeting House, and collaborations like the W.E.B. Du Bois Monument in Great Barrington.

The event will also honor the three recipients of the Professor John H. Bracey Jr. Leadership Awards, which recognize contributions by university students, staff and faculty who, like Bracey, foster a more equitable and inclusive campus community.

Registration is required to attend in person and a livestream will also be provided via YouTube and on the event website.
