University Health Services’ Dr. Ilana L. Schmitt has been named the Massachusetts Medical Society’s 2026 Community Clinician of the Year for the Hampshire District.

The Community Clinician of the Year Award recognizes a physician from each of the society’s districts for their significant contributions to patients and the community. Nominations, made by colleagues, are reviewed by the Hampshire District Medical Society’s Executive Committee and Schmitt was unanimously chosen by the committee for the award.

A staff physician at UHS since 2008, Schmitt provides primary care, pediatrics, travel medicine and gender-affirming care to UMass community members.
