Stephen Sireci Elected to the National Academy of Education
Stephen Sireci, Distinguished University Professor and executive director of the Center for Educational Assessment in the College of Education, has been elected to lifetime membership in the National Academy of Education. The announcement, made in a Jan. 21 release by the academy, states that Sireci is part of a new member class of “22 exceptional education leaders and scholars” who “represent a wide range of expertise in education research and policy.”
He joins colleagues Greg Kelly, dean of the College of Education, and Sonia Nieto, professor emerita of language, literacy and culture, who are among the 300-plus members worldwide supporting the academy’s mission to advance high-quality education research and its use in policy formulation and practice.

“It is an honor to join Sonia Nieto and Greg Kelly in representing the University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Education in the academy,” Sireci said. “The UMass College of Education and the UMass Center for Educational Assessment do so much research and service to help students learn and promote social justice in education. It is nice to see us being recognized and honored by the academy.”
Founded in 1965, the National Academy of Education consists of U.S. members and international associates who are elected based on their scholarship related to education.
