Spring Meeting of American Musicological Society’s New England Chapter Hosted by UMass Music and Dance
The spring 2021 meeting of the American Musicological Society’s New England chapter was held virtually on Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m. The meeting was hosted by the UMass Amherst department of music and dance; Evan MacCarthy, a Five College Visiting assistant professor at UMass, is the current president of the New England chapter. Founded in 1934, the American Musicological Society exists “to expand understanding of music and sound through research, teaching, learning, and advocacy,” and today has over 4,000 individual and institutional members.
Six research presentations were delivered over two panel sessions at the May 15 meeting, with UMass music and dance chair Salvatore Macchia providing welcoming remarks. The presenting scholars were Mary Greer (Cambridge, Mass.), Melissa Ursula Dawn Goldsmith (Westfield State University), Andrew Haringer (Saint Anselm College), Richard Mueller (Willington, Conn.), Joel Schwindt (Boston Conservatory at Berklee) and Victoria Tzotzkova (MIT).
