The Jazz Journalists Association has named Glenn Siegel, coordinator for the Fine Arts Center’s Magic Triangle Jazz Series, one of its Jazz Heroes for 2019. Jazz Heroes are individuals from around the country honored for their behind-the-scenes work in keeping jazz alive and thriving in their communities.

Siegel has curated and produced jazz and world music concerts at UMass Amherst and throughout Western Massachusetts for the past 30 years. He is the founding director of Magic Triangle, Solos & Duos, A World of Piano and Pioneer Valley Jazz Shares.

Siegel’s over 275 events have featured icons such as Cecil Taylor, Yusef Lateef, Fred Anderson, Ray Barretto, Sam Rivers, Lester Bowie, Andrew Hill, and Randy Weston.

In addition to producing, he regularly reviews concerts on his blog, “Jazz Ruminations.”

The award will be presented to Siegel by saxophonists and area educators Marty Ehrlich and Jason Robinson prior to the concluding concert of Magic Triangle’s 30th anniversary season, Ken Vandermark and Nate Wooley, at Old Chapel on Wednesday, April 24.
