Obituary: James Burrill, Retired Computer Scientist
James H. Burrill, 73, of South Deerfield, a retired senior research fellow in computer science, died Jan. 31.
Born in Chicago on Dec. 5, 1944, he graduated from Evanston Township High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Ohio and his master’s in computer science from UMass Amherst.
After graduation, he worked at the university computing center and then at Amerinex Artificial Intelligence before returning to campus as a computer research scientist. He retired in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce W. Burrill; his two daughters, Katherine and Jennifer of South Deerfield; and his sister Lucille Johnson and her husband Harold Johnson of Battle Creek, Michigan.
