Music and Dance Presents Combined Concert by Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, the department of music and dance will present a concert titled “Lift Every Voice...” featuring the UMass Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band conducted by Matthew Westgate.
The Wind Ensemble will perform “Downey Overture” by Óscar Navarro, “Of Our New Day Begun” by Omar Thomas, “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” by Fisher Tull, and “Symphony No. 3” by Vittorio Giannini. The Symphony Band program will include “Folk Dances” by Dmitri Shostakovich, arranged by H. Robert Reynolds, “Chester” by William Schuman, “Five Miniatures” by Joaquín Turina, “City Trees” by Michael Markowski and Frank Ticheli’s “Angels in the Architecture.” Myron Welch from the University of Iowa will guest conduct “Five Miniatures” and “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” as part of this year’s UMass Wind Studies conductor-in-residence program.
Tickets are $5 for seniors and non-UMass students and $10 for general admission. Admission is free for UMass students with ID. Tickets may be purchased at the Fine Arts Center box office, by phone at 413-545- 2511, or online at fineartscenter.com/musicanddance.
