Minuteman Band Performs for Governor’s Inauguration

The Minuteman Marching Band welcomed dignitaries and well-wishers to the State House in Boston today for Gov. Charlie Baker’s second inauguration.

Although school is not in session, about 150 members of the band responded to the invitation to perform on the front lawn of the iconic government building.

It was the fifth time since 2015 that the band from the university’s flagship campus has appeared at the State House.

Band director Timothy T. Anderson said, “We are very proud to be the Commonwealth’s band.”

On New Year's Day 2018, the 129th Rose Parade provided the largest audience in the history of the band, which had already performed to crowds at the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and the 2010 Lord Mayor of Dublin’s News Year’s Day Parade in Ireland.

The band has also performed for presidential inaugural ceremonies in 1981, 1985 and 2000.

In 1998, the Minuteman Marching Band was awarded the most prestigious honor bestowed upon college bands, the Louis C. Sudler Trophy.
