Lucinda Canty Honored with Diversity in Nursing Award

Lucinda Canty, associate professor in the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing and director of Seedworks Health Equity in Nursing, is being honored with the 2025 American Nurses Association Massachusetts (AMAMASS) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advancement in Nursing Award.
Canty, a certified nurse midwife and reproductive health justice activist, will receive the award Friday, April 4, at the 2025 ANAMASS Awards and FNAMA Scholarship Gala in Framingham.
The award recognizes a Massachusetts nurse for contributions to championing and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in their work environment and within the profession.
Canty, who was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2023, has worked for nearly three decades to improve health outcomes for women of color. She focuses especially on Black maternal health and addressing medical racism.
As director of Seedworks Health Equity in Nursing, Canty oversees the four-year program aimed at talented students whose insights and experiences will increase the diversity, innovation and positive impact of nursing on healthcare and health equity.
The mentorship, networking and professional development program is offered to first-year undergraduate nursing majors who are underrepresented in the field.
