Lorimer Leonard Honored for Book on Migrant Women and Literacy

Rebecca Lorimer Leonard, associate professor of English, has received a 2019 Outstanding Book Award from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) for her book, “Writing on the Move: Migrant Women and the Value of Literacy.

The award honors books within the field of composition and rhetoric. Authored books, as well as edited volumes are eligible. Nominees are evaluated for scholarship and research in the areas of pedagogy, practice, history and theory.

Lorimer Leonard will be announced as a recipient on March 15 during the 2019 CCCC annual convention in Pittsburgh.

A specialist in literacy studies, language ideologies, multilingual writing and comparative rhetoric, Lorimer Leonard’s research examines how transnational literacy practices are valued according to shifting language ideologies.

She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on language diversity, writing pedagogy and research methods.  

In 2017, she received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

CCCC, a constituent organization within the National Council of Teachers of English, supports and promotes the teaching and study of composition, rhetoric, and communication skills at the college level.
