The Kinney Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies has announced the Gillespie Curatorial Fellows for 2026-27.

The competitive fellowship offers an opportunity for advanced undergraduate and graduate students to work with one of the most significant private Shakespeare collections in America.

Fellows Nayun Kwon and Edwyn Choi will learn all aspects of curatorial practice to produce a special exhibit that tells new stories and forges new directions in the study of Shakespeare and the book.

A doctoral student in English at UMass Amherst, Nayun Kwon specializes in early modern literature. Her research focuses on the interplay between early modern drama, history and politics. As a Gillespie Fellow, Kwon will explore how Shakespearean drama engages with popular resistance and the political power of the people, as well as the relationship between sovereign power and public support.

Edwyn Choi is an English major at Amherst College. As a Gillespie Fellow, he will study global Shakespeares, extending work on his senior thesis, which pinpoints “Koreanness” in Korean cultural products, particularly in Korean adaptations of Shakespeare.
