The Edwin C. Gentzler Translation Center is accepting proposals through Friday, March 14, for its 2025 art exhibit on translation.

The center reserves a space at its location in Herter Hall Annex 17 for art that explores the multifaceted nature of translation, where language becomes a canvas for creativity. Katherine Amaya’s year-long exhibition “Drowning Fish” concludes this month, after which the center will present its next exhibition.

Individuals or groups affiliated with UMass Amherst are invited to interpret the theme of translation in their own way – including, but not limited to, drawing, painting, photography, digital art and mixed media. Proposals can include already existing artwork, or something created especially for this initiative.

Following the March 14 submission deadline, a panel of faculty, students and staff will conduct a blind review of the proposals. Selected proposals will be announced the week of March 24 with the exhibition opening planned for the week of April 14.

The center will cover project and installation expenses up to a certain amount. Creators of the selected project work with the center to arrange installation by the opening date.

For more information and to submit a proposal, visit the exhibition’s Google submission form here.
