Fourteenth Annual Catalan Film Festival at UMass Amherst

The Catalan Studies Program and the Interdepartmental Program in Film Studies present the 14th edition of the Catalan Film Festival at UMass Amherst from April 11 through 16. The festival will feature the best of new fiction and documentary filmmaking by Catalan directors.

Five films will be screened during the festival. Filmmakers Esteve Riambau and David Casals-Roma will introduce their films and provide Q&A sessions after the screenings. Casals-Roma will also offer a masterclass on documentary filmmaking on Thursday, April 14 at 4 p.m. in ILC S404.

Monday, April 11, 6:30 p.m.: ILC S240 "La hiha de un ladrón," Belén Funes.

Wednesday, April 13, 6:30 p.m.: ILC S240 "La vampira de Barcelona," Lluís Danés

Thursday, April 14, 4 p.m.: ILC S404 Masterclass with filmmaker David Casals Roma

Thursday, April 14, 6:30 p.m.: ILC S240 "La innocència," Lucia Alemany

Friday, April 15, 7 p.m.: ILC S240 "La voz de Thaïs," David Calas-Roma - Introduction and Q&A with filmmaker David Casals-Roma and executive producer, UMass professor Barbara Zecchi. Presented in collaboration with 18th North American Catalan Society (NACS) Colloquium.

Saturday, April 16, 7 p.m.: ILC S240 "La doble vida del faquir," Elisabet Cabeza & Esteve Riambau - Introduction and Q&A with filmmaker Esteve Ruambau.

In collaboration with 18th NACS Colloquium. Films are shown in their original Catalan or Spanish versions with English subtitles. Pizza will be served for attendees.

Presented by the Program of Catalan Studies, and UMass Film Studies, in collaboration with the 18th North American Catalan Society Colloquium, and co-sponsored by the Institut Ramon Llull, the Spanish and Portuguese Programs and the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at UMass Amherst.

Co-organized by Catalan studies faculty members Guillem Molla, senior lecturer; Irene Massana Cogul, visiting lecturer; and Barbara Zecchi, professor.
