Fine Arts Center Announces 2021-22 Season
The UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center has announced performances and exhibitions for their 2021-22 season with tickets currently on sale.
The season begins with a special intimate presentation of “Afterwardsness,” choreographed by director and dancer Bill T. Jones, and performed by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company. “Afterwardsness” is an evocative work reflecting Jones’ state of mind during two major world events: COVID-19 and the calling out of systemic racism. Some other highlights of the season are Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Kronos Quartet; Billy Taylor Jazz Artist-in-Residence, Christian Sands; Anat Cohen; Kenny Endo and more.
All three gallery spaces will be open to the public with a variety of exhibitions and events. The University Museum of Contemporary Art will be the first museum to focus an exhibition solely on Nicole Eisenman's prints. Augusta Savage Gallery will open its season with “Rising Waters/Blazing Earth” by Zea Mays printmaking, which will include interactive demonstrations on campus. Hampden Gallery will kick off this season with the work of Peter Dellert, who will be exhibiting both inside and in the outdoor sculpture garden.
Family programming is back with performances Acrobuffos: Air Play, Small Island Big Song, which focuses on the effects of climate change, and SUGAR SKULL! a digital theatrical performance inspired by the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos.
In concert with new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, UMass Amherst's 2021-22 policy requires all faculty, staff, and students to be vaccinated, and until further notice, all patrons, and visitors to Fine Arts Center in-person performances, the University Museum of Contemporary Art, Augusta Savage and Hampden galleries must wear a face mask.
More information and tickets are available on the Fine Arts Center’s website.
