In celebration of Earth Day, the DEFA Film Library will offer the UMass community a free one-week stream of the animated short film “Sunday.”

Directed by Klaus Georgi and Lutz Stützner, the three-minute-long film from 1989-90 is one of the most important East German animation films to address environmental issues. DEFA describes the film as “Richly textured with beautifully detailed character designs and backgrounds,” and that “’Sunday’ projects a haunting vision of a desolate future and is an unmistakable warning about the damage being done to the environment.”

The free stream, a collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Boston and Deutsches Haus at New York University, can be found April 22-28 at https://www.umass.edu/defa/projects/special-events/39679.
