Campus Bus Routes 33, 34 and 35 to Reduce Frequency

Transit Services will be reducing the number of weekday runs on PVTA Routes 33, 34 and 35, effective Monday, Sept. 17.

Other PVTA routes will maintain their existing schedules.

The decision is tied to a current shortage of student bus drivers. To boost recruitment and restore service, Transit Services has scheduled a hiring event at the Bus Garage on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information and details of route changes, visit www.umass.edu/bus.

Route 34, the Northbound Campus Shuttle, and 35, the Southbound Campus Shuttle, will run at 22-minute intervals instead of the current 15.

Route 33, the Puffer’s Pond / Shopper Shuttle, will run at 80-minute intervals instead of the current 40.

Transit officials say the changes are expected to remain in effect through the fall semester. With an effective driver recruitment campaign and subsequent training of drivers, they expect previous service levels to be re-established.
