The Community, Democracy, and Dialogue (CDD) initiative is currently welcoming UMass students, staff and faculty to submit proposals for the Advancing Community, Democracy, and Dialogue Grants. Proposals can be submitted online and are due by Oct. 2.

The Community, Democracy, and Dialogue (CDD) initiative was formed to help the campus community navigate challenging, complex and controversial subjects in ways that bring us together. The CDD exists to promote dialogue, academic inquiry and respect for differences in addressing the challenges of our time. 

Advancing Community, Democracy, and Dialogue Grants support grassroots efforts that promote diverse discourse and open dialogue on critical global and domestic social issues. Grants of up to $5,000 per project are available to support activities such as workshops, symposia, brown bag lunches, guest speakers and the development of curriculum or resources.

Previous projects that received grant funding for embodying the spirit of the CDD initiative include “The Ellsberg Initiative Democracy Project: Fighting Oligarchy and Authoritarianism,” a screening and conversation on “Get a Mule, 40 Acres or So,” the first of a three-part documentary series on Black farmers and Black land ownership, and “Standing Together: Cancer, Community, and Compassion Dialogue.”

Interested applicants are encouraged to review the CDD website for FAQ's and grant guidelines, or to register for one of the following information sessions for more information or to workshop an idea, will be held on the following dates:

• Friday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m.
• Monday, Sept. 28, 3 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 1, 2 p.m.
