Nursing Parent Facilities at UMass Amherst
UMass is proud to support breastfeeding and pumping in the workplace. Facilities for nursing parents are available in different locations across campus. Each location provides private space where nursing parents are welcome to pump or nurse. Designated rooms are equipped with a locking door, a chair, a table, and an electrical outlet.
A private space within a nursing parent's building may also be used, if such a space exists. According to the Fair Labor Standards Act, the room shall not be a bathroom stall or a storage area and must have a lock on the door. Employees are encouraged to work with their supervisor and/or their human resources representative to identify appropriate space within their building.
If a space is not available within the building where the employee works, private rooms have been designated throughout campus with a map available here.
Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. In general, rooms are left unlocked and can be locked from the inside.
